Woman gets jail time

WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman charged in September with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female juvenile was sentenced to serve 2 to 4 years in jail after pleading guilty to several sex charges in Greene County Court Wednesday. Waynesburg police arrested Marcie Lynn Burroughs, 38, on Sept. 15 on felony charges of statutory sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and aggravated indecent assault, and misdemeanor charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors.

According to the initial criminal complaint filed by Officer Robert Toth, Burroughs was charged with engaging in sexual intercourse with the juvenile in July at Burroughs’s apartment on South Washington Street.

Police interrogated both Burroughs and the juvenile on Sept. 14; both told authorities that the incident did occur and the juvenile said Borroughs did not force her to have sex with her, the complaint states.

Burroughs pleaded guilty Wednesday to statutory sexual assault, indecent assault and corruption of minors. As part of her plea agreement, the other charges were withdrawn, but an additional count of unlawful contact with a minor was added.

Following her plea, Greene County President Judge H. Terry Grimes sentenced Burroughs to serve 2 to 4 years in jail. Linda Chambers, first assistant district attorney, said Burroughs also would be required to pay fines and undergo counseling.

Chambers said a sentence condition would require that Burroughs not be allowed to have any contact with any children other than her own. She also will be required to register under Megan’s Law for the next 10 years, and an assessment will be conducted within the next 90 days to determine whether she will be required to register as a sexually violent predator under Megan’s Law for the rest of her life, Chambers added.

Burroughs was remanded to Greene County Jail following her sentencing.

This was not the first time Burroughs was arrested on sex charges.

In an unrelated case, Burroughs was arrested in April 2005 on allegations that she had sexual intercourse with four teenage boys between the ages of 13 and 15 at various times at her apartment in Waynesburg between March 2004 and February 2005. Police also alleged that Burroughs provided the juveniles with marijuana and alcohol at different times.

She was charged with four counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors, according to reports.

On Aug. 18, 2005, she pleaded guilty to four counts of statutory sexual assault. She was sentenced to serve concurrent terms of 11 1/2 months to 23 1/2 months in Greene County Jail and was ordered to pay a $200 fine for each count.

Burroughs also pleaded guilty to four counts of corruption of minors. For each count, she was ordered to serve one year of probation and pay a $200 fine. She was given credit for time served in jail, according to court records.
