Michael P. Mitchell, age 77, died in the Affinity Medical Center, Massillon Campus, Massillon, Ohio, on Saturday, February 17, 2007. He was born on Saturday, March 22, 1929, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.

Michael was raised in Canton, Ohio, where he graduated from Timken Vocational High School.

He was an Eagle Scout.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict where he served as a Chief Warrant Officer in the United States Army and had received 14 decorations.

Michael retired from the Timken Company in 1985 where he had been a Service Engineer for 39 years.

He was a member of Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Massillon where he served as an usher, The Knights of Columbus Council No. 554 where he was a Third Degree Knight, The Catholic Order of Foresters, The Catholic Men’s Luncheon Club, the Pro Football Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, the Ex-News Boys Association, the Korean War Veterans Association, the Retired Military Officers Association, the Reserve Officers Association, the American Legion Post No. 221 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5047 in Navarre, Ohio, where he served as Chaplin.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas J. Mitchell and Rose V. (Simon) Mitchell.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Nona (Keith) Mitchell; step-daughters: Cynthia (and Steve) Nash of Jackson Township, Ohio, Sandra (and John) DeMarsh of Traverse City, Michigan, and Anne Marie Krieg of Charlotte, North Carolina; step-sons: Robert C. (and Melissa) Yost of Green, Ohio, William L. (and Carol) Yost of Hinckley, Ohio, and Timothy (and Laura) Yost of Bath, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James and Janice Mitchell and Richard and Betty Mitchell all of Canton, Ohio; brother, Gene Mitchell of Cape Coral, Florida; sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends during visitation at the HEITGER FUNERAL SERVICE INC., 639 First Street N.E., Massillon, OH 44646 (330-833-3248) on Monday, February 19, 2007, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

A Scriptural Service will be held during visitation hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday, February 20, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Cherry Road, Massillon, Ohio, with the Rev. Father Edward Gretchko as Celebrant.

Burial will follow in East Union Lawn Cemetery, Navarre, Ohio, where Military Honors will be provided by the Navarre Veterans of Foreign Wars.
