Stanley Leonard Potkul

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the death of Stanley Leonard Potkul of Hopwood, Pa., who entered eternal rest on Tuesday, February 13, 2007. Stanley did not have the chance to battle the cancer that took his life suddenly, but he had the comfort of his family by his side in his final days on earth.

Born in Uniontown, Pa., on December 19, 1936, Stanley was the son of the late Anthony and Stella Potkul.

He graduated from South Union High School in 1954 and worked 42 years at Hagan’s and Fike’s dairies. He retired in 1997, and spent his retirement years enjoying time with his wife of almost 52 years, Elizabeth “Jean”, their ten children, 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He adored his beloved Jean and they shared a wonderful life together. He let everyone know that she was his one and only. Stanley also took great pride in spending time with his grandchildren, especially Kelly and Brandon Potkul. Though Stanley was retired, he continued to keep a busy schedule by helping others including the elderly and homebound.

Stanley was a member of Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Jean of Hopwood, Pa., and the following children: Bernard and his wife, Mary, of Uniontown, Ronald and his wife, Susan, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Stanley II and his wife, Debby, of Uniontown, Cindy and her husband, Tom Escue, of Hamilton, Ohio, Michael and his wife, Karen, of Perryopolis, Pa., Anthony and his wife, Donna, of Ledgewood, New Jersey, Melinda and her husband, Chris Miller, of Hopwood, Lucinda and her husband, Bill Franczyk Jr., of Washington, Pa., MaryAnne and her husband, Paul Goodmen, of North Street, Michigan, and Steven and his girlfriend, Sarah Clites, of Hopwood.

He was grandpap to Brian Potkul and his wife, Lisa, Stephanie Potkul, Jason Potkul, Kelly and Brandon Potkul, Thomas and Christopher Escue, Ethan and Elisabeth Franczyk, Parker and Dean Goodmen. He was great-grandpap to Creed and Cyrus Potkul.

He is also survived by sister, Irene Bane and her husband, Don of Uniontown.

He will also be sadly missed by his Golden Retriever, Daisy, who was his dear friend.

Private Services were held at the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., on Friday, February 16, 2007, and he was laid to rest in the Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Hopwood.
