John Bezjak

John Bezjak, 81, of Smithfield, Pa., formerly of Masontown, Pa., passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born in Masontown, Pa., on December 7, 1925, a son of the now late Sandor and Rose Balaban Bezjak.

He was a member of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa. He was a retired coal miner from the Humphry (Consolidated Mine), member of the U.M.W.A. district 31, and the Local Union 1058.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Army. He belonged to the Faith Gray McArdle V.F.W. Post 4584 and the American Legion Post 423 of Masontown.

He is survived by one daughter, Patty Maloney of Smithfield, Pa., and her friend, Pete Robinson; one granddaughter, Laura Maloney Smith and husband, Glenn Smith of Gans, Pa., and two great-grandchildren: Grayson and Caroline; two special nephews: Joseph and Carl Bezjak; two brothers: Paul Bezjak and wife, Lil of Morgantown, Joseph Bezjak of Morgantown; and a sister, Mary Worch, State of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Elizabeth, grandson, Ryan Maloney, and a number of brothers and sisters.

The family will receive friends in the JOHN F. BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME, of Smithfield, Pa., today, February 23, 2007, until 10:30 a.m., when short prayers will be said followed by Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki and the Rev. Father James Bump as Celebrants.

Interment will follow in the Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.

Full Military Rites will be accorded at the Cemetery by the VFW Post 4584, and the American Legion Post 423 of Masontown.
