Police charges suspect with attempted homicide
A West Brownsville woman was able to wrest a handgun from her ex-boyfriend after he shot another man in a dispute at a home in West Brownsville Wednesday evening. State police said Annette Fabery was able to pull the .22-caliber handgun from Robert Yarnovich before running into a bathroom at her home at 514 Washington St. to escape the confrontation.
Police said Yarnovich was charged with attempted homicide as well as other charges before Magisterial District Judge Curt Thompson following the incident, which left Samuel Corella of Merritstown nursing a gunshot wound to the right hand.
According to trooper Craig M. Yauch, sometime Wednesday afternoon Yarnovich came to the residence and let himself in.
Yauch said Yarnovich rents the home to Fabery.
Once inside, Yauch said Yarnovich began arguing with Fabery and Corella during which he pulled the gun from his pants.
Yauch said Fabery began to try and take the gun from Yarnovich but he pointed the weapon at her.
Police said Corella and Yarnovich then got into a physical altercation and fell onto the couch where Yarnovich fired the gun striking Corella in the hand.
At that point, Yauch said Fabery was able to take the handgun from Yarnovich and flee inside a bathroom.
Police said the fight between the two men continued for a short time.
After the shooting, Corella drove himself to the Uniontown Hospital for treatment and hospital officials notified the police of the gunshot wound.
Yauch said Corella first denied being shot and told police he shot himself, but eventually told investigators what had happened.
An update on his condition was not immediately available.
Following the investigation, police discovered Yarnovich at his Daisytown home where he was taken into custody without incident.
Yarnovich was placed in the Washington County Prison on $35,000 straight cash bond.
