Richard T. Sypolt, 76, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Point Marion, Pa., died February 21, 2007, in the Arbors in Canton, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was born in Preston County, West Virginia, on April 20, 1930, son of the late Charles and Mary (McNear) Sypolt.

Richard was a retired coal miner, a United States Army veteran and a life member of the VFW.

He was a former very active member of the Point Marion Rotary serving as past president, Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 7330, 1996 to 1997 and was distinguished as a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a former member of the Point Marion Borough Council and the Point Marion United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a member of the Aldergate Bible class.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Grace Liberty Sypolt; his children: Sharon Pennington and her husband, Bruce of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sheryl Christ and her husband, Dave of Oklahoma; stepchildren: Fred Ludwig and his wife, Kathie of Navarre, Ohio, and Betty Grochowski and her husband, Gary of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Richard Sypolt, Jr. and a stepdaughter, Carol Wamsley.

Friends will be received in the LOUIS E. RUDOLPH FUNERAL HOME, 15 Main Street, Point Marion, Pa., Thomas B. Rudolph, Funeral Director and Supervisor, today, February 23, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, February 24, from 10 to 11 a.m. when services will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. Scott Teets officiating.

Interment will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, Pa.

Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite.
