Arthur M. Saunders
Arthur M. Saunders, 81, of Fairchance, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the home of his longtime friends, Clifford and Roberta Belsar. He was born April 30, 1925, in Mentor, Ohio, son of the late George Albert Saunders and Gladys Helen Green Saunders.
“Art” was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Norma June Hickle Saunders.
He was a United States Navy veteran for over 19 years during World War II, Korea and Vietnam eras.
“Art” was employed as a deckhand on the barges and towboats of the Consolidation Coal Company for many years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Fairchance Senior Center and the Eagles. “Art” was also a former volunteer ambulance driver and attendant with the Fairchance Ambulance Corps.
Surviving are his son, Keith Saunders and wife, Pamela of Uniontown, Pa.; four grandchildren: Jennifer and Christopher Saunders, Miranda Fullem DeFrank and husband, Douglas and Nathaniel Fullem; great-grandson, Kole Fullem; longtime family friends, Clifford and Robert Belsar of Fairchance; two sisters: Mamie L. Burkholder and Mildred Schlauch of Ohio; three brothers: Clyde “Bert” Saunders of Tennessee, Ray A. Saunders of New Jersey and Donald Saunders of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Monday, February 26, 2007, from 9 to noon. Services begin at noon with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating.
Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa., with Military Rites being accorded by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
