Elmo W. Vignali
Elmo W. Vignali, 86, of Masontown, Pa., passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, with his loving family at his side. He is together again with his wife of 49 years, Anne Marie (Maldovan) Vignali, along with his mother, Silvia Vignali, father, William Vignali, sister, Elma, brothers. Edward and Alvo Vignali, and cousin, Walter Vicinelly.
He will be deeply missed by many friends and family, especially his daughter, Linda S. Vignali Bartock and son-in-law, Joe of Masontown, Pa.; son, Mike Vignali and daughter-in-law, Marlene of Woodside, Pa.; granddaughters: Kristin Balog-Nassios and her husband, Jim Nassios and Marissa V. Heavener; many nieces, nephews and friend Catherine Micoli.
He proudly served his country in World War II in the United States Army Infantry, and was a guard at the Nuremberg trials. He also served his community as a member and Past-President of the Masontown Borough Council.
Elmo was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Fort Mason American Legion Post 423, Faith-Gray-McArdle Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4584, Italo-American Citizens Club, Knights of Columbus, and the Pals Social Citizens Club.
Elmo’s great ear and love of music was expressed through his fine guitar playing, along with directing All Saints Church Choir.
Most will remember seeing Elmo at what seemed to be his second home, and longtime family business, Vignali’s Foodland grocery store.
His life will be celebrated on Sunday, February 25, 2007, when friends will be received at the HAKY FUNERAL HOME, INC., 515 North Main Street, Masontown, Pa., from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday morning until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in All Saints Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John M. Butler as Celebrant.
Interment will be held at Sylvan Heights Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded by George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to All Saints School or the German-Masontown Public Library.
A Parish Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3 p.m.
