Michael Pokorny, 84, of Masontown, Pa., died Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born on October 9, 1922, in Messmore, Pa., the son of the late Michael and Hermina (Faynor) Pokorny.

After serving his country in the Army in World War II, Michael worked as a Stationary Engineer at United States Steel’s Robena Prep Plant. Michael was a member of U.M.W.A. Local 6321, Pals Club and the Masontown Fish and Game Club.

Michael spent 58 wonderful years with his loving wife, Elizabeth, who cared for him with warmth and tenderness and loved him with all her heart. He was a devoted father and grandfather and a dedicated friend willing to help anyone in any way. Michael will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Kish) Pokorny; sons, Michael Pokorny and wife, Lisa of Watsontown, Pa., and Gary Pokorny of Uniontown; grandchildren, Zack and Jackie Pokorny; brothers, Rudy Pokorny of Masontown and Joseph Pokorny of Aliquippa; sisters: Hermina Yasenosky of Shoaf, Margaret Ferian of Berea, Ohio, Stella Markatan of Ronco and Helen Muzidal of Masontown.

Besides his parents, Michael was predeceased by brothers, Steve, Frank, Ignatius and John and sisters, Mary and Elizabeth.

Friends will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH, JR. FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and River Avenue, Masontown, Pa., today, February 24, from 7 to 9 p.m., Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Monday until 1:30 p.m. when a Prayer Service will be held followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Leckrone, Pa., with the Reverend Father Donald P. Trexler as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, Pa.

Military Rites will be accorded at graveside by the Masontown V.F.W. and the American Legion.
