MENALLEN TWP. – A violent one-car crash early Friday in Menallen Township left a man in critical condition and a woman seriously injured. State police said the driver of the car, Steven Long of Denver, Pa., suffered severe injuries and passenger Jennifer Madden of Mount Pleasant also was injured in the crash.

Trooper Chris Lieberum said the accident occurred at 2:14 a.m. as Long was traveling east on Route 40.

Lieberum said Long lost control of the car near Knucklehead’s Bar and struck a utility pole on the south side of the road. The car then overturned, police said.

Long was ejected from the vehicle and was discovered by emergency personnel in a ditch along the road.

State police reconstruction specialists closed part of the road Friday morning as they worked to examine the crash site.

Sgt. James Caccimelio said Long and Madden were initially taken to Uniontown Hospital for treatment. An update on their conditions was not available Friday evening.

According to Fayette County 911, volunteer firefighters from New Salem and Footedale – along with emergency personnel from Fayette EMS, Uniontown Fireman’s Ambulance, American EMS and the state police – responded to the crash.
