Arthur M. Saunders

Arthur M. Saunders, 81 years, of Fairchance, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, in the home of his longtime friends, Clifford and Roberta Belsar. He was born April 30, 1925, in Mentor, Ohio, the son of George Albert Saunders and Gladys Helen Green Saunders.

He was a United States Navy veteran who served for over 19 years during World War II, Korea and the Vietnam eras.

“Art” was employed as a deckhand on the barges and towboats of Consolidation Coal Company for many years until his retirement.

He was a member of the Fairchance Senior Center and the B.P.O. Eagles.

“Art” was also a former volunteer ambulance driver and attendant with the Fairchance Ambulance Corps.

“Art” was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Norma June Hickle Saunders.

Surviving are his son, Keith Saunders and wife, Pamela, of Uniontown, Pa.; four grandchildren: Jennifer Saunders, Christopher Saunders, Miranda Fullem DeFrank and her husband, Douglas, and Nathaniel Fullem; great-grandson, Kole Fullem; longtime family friends, Clifford and Roberta Belsar of Fairchance; two sisters: Mamie L. Burkholder and Mildred Schlauch of Ohio; three brothers: Clyde “Bert” Saunders of Tennessee, Ray A. Saunders of New Jersey and Donald Saunders of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Monday, February 26, 2007, from 9 until noon. Services begin at noon with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating.

Interment will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa., where Military Rites will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
