Play tickets remain The Connellsville Area School District Falcon Foundation issues a reminder that there are still a few tickets available for its first benefit dinner, to be held in the cafeteria of the high school, prior to the Friday, March 2, performance of “Guy and Dolls.”

Organizers said the dinner will be furnished by Miedel’s Restaurant and the menu will include stuffed chicken breast, prime rib, green beans, almandine, parsley potatoes, salad, rolls, dessert and beverage.

The cost of the ticket includes one ticket to the 7:30 musical performance.

The benefit tickets will not be available at the high school box office and can only be reserved through one of the foundation members.

Benefit dinner set

The Uniontown Salvation Army will host a spaghetti dinner to help with the travel expenses of Montel Thompson, a Uniontown Area High School student who will travel to France, Greece and Italy as a student ambassador with the People to People program.

Founded in 1956 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who believed that ordinary citizens of different nations could solve their differences if they communicate directly, the program provides international educational opportunities for grade school, junior high school and high school students.

The spaghetti dinner will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 24. The event will include a fashion show and raffle.

NAACP event today

President George Burroughs Jr. and Program Chair Gladys Foster announced that the Mon Valley Branch of the NAACP will celebrate Black History Month with an area-wide program at 3 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church, 541 Allen Ave., Donora.

The theme is “Building a Powerhouse of Leaders.”

Terry McCullough of Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services in Charleroi will act as the mistress of ceremonies. Mime, music and tribute to area African-American businesses are included in the program.

The Sunday School bringing the most members will receive special recognition.

Refreshments will be served after the program and also there will be treats for children.

School plans open house

Champion Christian School will host a Community Visit Day from 1 to 7 p.m. March 2 at the South Campus in Indian Head and the North Campus in Donegal.

D. Merle Skinner, executive director, said that both campuses will be open for tours and the faculty and staff will be available to answer any questions.

Students in preschool through 12th grade attend Champion Christian School.

Free transportation will be available in the following districts: Mount Pleasant, Connellsville, Ligonier, Uniontown, Rockwood and Somerset.

VFW Auxiliary to meet

The Ladies Auxiliary to Walter E. Brown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 21 will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at the post home.

According to officials, plans for the Voice of Democracy banquet slated for March 8 and the District 23 meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. March 11 at Uniontown Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 will be discussed and finalized.

President Jean Stefancin urges all members to attend.
