Sr. M. Walter Franko OSF, of Mount Alvernia, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2007, during the early years of her ministry as a Sister of Saint Francis. Sr. Walter taught children in the middle and upper elementary classed of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. She continued in this capacity for several years before serving as Principal at Saint Columbkille School in Imperial and later at Saint Peter School in Brownsville. During the time when schools were merging, she served as Director of Education at South Side Catholic School. After retiring from full time ministry, she continued to teach part-time at Saint Sebastian School in Belle Vernon. When Sr. Walter came to the Motherhouse in Millvale in 1985, she offered her help on the Infirmary Staff. During her final years in Prayer Ministry, she continued to offer her services wherever possible. She devoted many hours to painting and printing the Crosses that were presented to students on our Youth for Peace Days.

Her friendliness and cheerfulness will be long remembered by all who knew her.
