Suspect indicted on theft charges

By The 1 min read

A Fayette County woman was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on Tuesday on charges of theft of government property, a report from U.S. Attorney Mary Beth Buchanan’s office said. Yvonne E. Price, 46, of 80 First St., Hibbs, allegedly stole United States Department of Labor Black Lung Compensation Benefits from April 24, 2003, through Dec. 7, 2004, the report said.

The money, according to the report, had been electronically deposited by the U.S. Treasury into a National City Bank account for the benefit of Thelma Price, who is deceased.

The law provides a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and/or a fine of $150,000, on each of the 12 counts, Buchanan’s report explained, noting that the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offence.

An indictment is only a charge, not evidence of guilt.
