John D. ‘Dave’ Pierce
John D. “Dave” Pierce, age 71, of Uniontown, Pa., died on Friday, December 29, 2006, in the Donnell House Hospice, Washington, Pa. He was born on January 13, 1935, in Tyler, Texas, the son of James E. Pierce and Magdalene (Smith) Pierce.
“Dave” was a member of Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, The Golden Agers Club, Jednota Lodge, the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, Pa., the Hutchinson Gun Club and the Fayette County Historical Society.
He was a retired steel worker, employed with the Homestead Works for 21 years.
During the Korean War he served his country in the United States Marine Corps and served with the Army Reserves for many years after.
The last member of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents, twin sister, Mary Catherine, and brothers, James, Thomas and Joseph Pierce.
Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife of 41 years, Marguerite E. “Marge” (Churilla) Pierce; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Churilla, Veronica Domko and Trish Pierce; brother-in-law, William Churilla; nieces: Elaine Matthews, Joanne Guseman, Debbie Churilla, Donna Cook, Rose Wensing, Charlotte Kirby, Kathy Hernold, Ann Marie Mecklenberg and Denise Churilla; nephews: Joseph Sadosky, Edward Sadosky, James Churilla, Joseph Churilla, William Churilla, Tom Churilla, Sam Churilla, Robert Churilla and John Hosa; also special great-nieces: Stacy DeAngelo and Tracy Forsythe; and many more great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., 603 North Gallatin Avenue Extension, Uniontown, Pa., today (New Year’s Day) from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 3, 2007, until 9:15 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, North Mount Vernon Avenue, with the Rev. Father Micah E. Kozoil as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary (Nativity) Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Honors will be accorded by the General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103, Hopwood, Pa.
