Fund-raiser planned
A breast cancer fund-raiser is planned for Ann Rockwell Berdar from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Christian Church in Point Marion, according to Marsha Fowler, one of the event planners. Fowler said Berdar was originally diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2000 and after surgery, chemotherapy and radiation she went into remission. However, when she went back to the hospital for her regular checkup last fall her doctors discovered that the cancer came back with a vengeance and is now on the arch of the aorta of her heart.
“She will now begin new rounds of chemo and radiation and we wanted to do something nice to help her and her family,” said Fowler. “That’s why we scheduled the fund-raiser in her honor.”
Fowler said special T-shirts made by Rosemary Helmick of Abby Wear of Greensboro would be available for anyone interested in purchasing them by order. The T-shirts are pink with the national breast cancer ribbon. They also read, “Pray for Ann.”
Gift certificates and baskets will also be available through special drawings. Fowler said Berdar is a “wonderful person” and everyone is invited to come out to the fund-raiser and visit with her and her family. For more information, call Fowler at 724-557-3344.
