William A. Vaslavsky
William A. Vaslavsky, 82, of Smithfield, Pa., died Tuesday, January 16, 2007, in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born April 8, 1924, in New Geneva, Pa., son of the late Joseph Vaslavsky and Marie Palinkas Vaslavsky.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Elizabeth Takacs, Mary Karpinez and Emma Cunningham, and four brothers, Joseph Vaslavsky, John Vaslavsky, Steve Vaslavsky and Frank Vaslavsky.
He was the last surviving member of his family.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Sophia Riedmann Vaslavsky; two sons: William Joseph Vaslavsky and his wife, Christina of Connellsville, Pa., and Frank Edward Vaslavsky and his wife, Karen of Uniontown, Pa.; five grandchildren: Billie Audric and her husband, Vincent of Silver Springs, Maryland, Beth Howe and her husband, Eddie and Jen Hackett and her husband, Tim all of Pittsburgh, Pa., Julie Osekowski and her husband, Jason of Canonsburg, Pa., and Nicholas Vaslavsky; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a retired, self-employed, long distant freight hauler.
He was accepted into the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and flew 33 missions as a tail gunner in the Second World War.
The family will receive friends in the GOLDSBORO-TOMI FUNERAL HOME, 21 East Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, January 20, 2007, until 9:30 a.m., when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m., in Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, Fairchance, Pa., with the Rev. Father Andrew M. Kawecki and the Rev. Father John Sedlak as Celebrants.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, Fairchance, Pa.
A Wake Service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 3 p.m.
The AMVETS General Marshall Post No. 103, Hopwood, Pa., will accord graveside Military Rites.
