Carole LaVonne Shultz Keister

Carole LaVonne Shultz Keister, 65, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Tuesday morning, January 23, 2007. She was born January 16, 1942, in Connellsville, Pa. the daughter of the late Harry Robert Shultz and Kathryn Freeman Shultz.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by uncle, Donald Freeman and aunt, Dr. Mildred Walters.

Carole fought cancer since 1986 having had it nine separate times.

She graduated from Fairchance Georges High School class of 1959, California University of Pennsylvania in 1962 and did graduate work at Penn State University at State College, Pa., Carole was a teacher for 15 1/2 years for Albert Gallatin Area School District where she did community work with her children. She took high school students and valentines to Pittsburgh Veterans Hospital, for five years, she sent placemats made by her students to Meals on Wheels for their clients for Thanksgiving Day. She wanted to install this passion for doing for others in her children.

Her childhood dream was to be a physician in Africa and relieve the suffering of this nation. For years she went into intensive care units and into the homes of the critically ill to say the 23rd Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer. Carole was inspired by her mother Kathryn, Dr. Albert Schweitzer with his work in Africa and Mother Theresa for her work in Calcutta, India. Recently she met and talked with one of the brothers in Mother Theresa’s order in India.

She grew up and was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown. The church influenced her through their Camp Awana which she attended every summer for seven years.

Carole was so thankful for her oncologist, Dr. Jan Seski and his staff at Allegheny General. She was so appreciative of the teachers in Albert Gallatin who gave her their sick days.

Carole is survived by her beloved son, David Allen Keister at home; and her loving daughter, Kim Keister-Boviero and husband, Lou of Stone Mountain, Georgia; Fianc?, James Pepe; brothers and their wives: Drs. Robert and Margarite Shultz and Dr. Floyd and Annelie Shultz of Allentown, Pa.; aunt, Ruth Jane Shultz of Uniontown; nieces: Christine Shultz and Karen Shultz; nephews: Robert Miguel Shultz, Carlos and Mary Shultz and Daniel Shultz; cousins: Ted Shultz, Fred Shultz, Bill Shultz, John Freeman and David Freeman; special friends: Bill and Betty Lilley and many other friends.

Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., on Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, January 26, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Visitation continues on Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m., in the Third Presbyterian Church, Union Street.

Funeral Services begin at 10 a.m., with Rev. William Rodahaver officiating.

Interment follows in the Jacob Lutheran Cemetery, Masontown, Pa.
