Geibel students participate in march

1 min read

Forty-two students and chaperones from Geibel Catholic Middle-High School in Connellsville participated in the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 22, marking the 34th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. The march has been held every year since 1973 as a non-violent protest of the decision. The Geibel Catholic trip was organized by John McFarland, chairman of the religious education department, and Marita Hunchuck, director of campus ministry. Students listened to speeches by key pro-life political leaders including President George W. Bush via a telephone address. At the conclusion of the rally, students joined hundreds of thousands of other walkers along the march route as a demonstration of their conviction to protect all life.

In the picture, McFarland talks to students about the significance of their participation. From left are Samantha Hawk, McFarland, Steven Andursky and Marney Hillen. All students are residents of Connellsville.
