Mary Nancy Hicks Jenkins
Mary Nancy Hicks Jenkins, peacefully passed away in her home, Tuesday, January 30, 2007. She was born on May 7, 1920, the daughter of the late Edward and Carrie Hicks.
She was a 1937 graduate of the Uniontown Senior High School.
She was a member of the Mount Rose Baptist Church for more than 65 years and served faithfully as church clerk, superintended of the Sunday school, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school treasurer, president of the Missionary Society and trustee.
She was a member of the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association, Inc., and served as the treasurer of the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission for many years under several presidents.
She was the past Worthy Matron of Naomi Chapter 7 Order of Eastern Stars.
Her community service included past president of the Friends of Uniontown Public Library. A member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross. She was the director of the East End Playground for 15 years.
She retired in 1980 as a supervisor with the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Cherishing precious memories of Nancy is her daughter, Mary Nancy Jenkins; s sister, Juanita G. Thompson of Clairton, Pa.; a cousin, Perita Henderson; nieces, nephews and many Christian friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gilbert ‘Buddy’ Jenkins in 1992; brothers, Benard, John Edward, Clifford, William and Carl.
Friends will be received in the Mount Rose Baptist Church, 9 North Grant Street, Uniontown, Pa., 15401, on Friday, February 2, 2007, from 10 a.m., until 11 a.m., the hour of the service, with the Rev. Brian McLee will officiate and the Rev. R.D. McClain of Scranton, Pa. will deliver the eulogy.
Interment will be held in the Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
