The women of the First Christian Church began a new ministry in 2006 and had a very successful first year. Between 20 and 27 women attended from September to May. The 2007 ministry will begin on Sept. 18 and all the ladies are looking forward to attending. The group meets in the Family Life Center on the third Tuesday of the month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. All women are invited to attend. Strike two
Mother Goose has once again failed to hatch the eggs in the duck nest she misappropriated a few weeks ago. This time she gave up on her own accord and seemingly disappeared. Father Goose stood around honking forlornly, so Barb and Crabby were concerned that she had come to a bad end and went in search of the lady in question. They found her in the donkey field, hiding beneath the feed trough on her third nest of the season. These eggs appear to be hers. Mother Goose is nothing if not determined. She’s been sitting on one nest or another since the end of March with no results. Too bad we all don’t have that kind of patience.
Moose Golf
A funny thing happened at the Linden Hall Golf Course when the Guru arrives to compete in his match against a fellow named Mark Smith. What makes this noteworthy is the fact that he is the poster boy for all the golf league members. At the outings, he invariably wins all the cash prizes, and is the envy of all the golfers, wannabe golfers, hackers and tyros. Ted Lytle, the darling of the links, told the Guru that he was about to be decimated and was paired up with Ron Kipper and Buddy Petrosky, two of the leagues major players. Having resigned to losing, he therefore lost all the tension that goes with competing and played as if it didn’t matter how he played. To make a long story short (too late), it came down to the last hole, and he was informed that he was one stroke up on Mark. That put the possibility of winning into the equation, and the tension came in big time, which caused him to lose by one stroke, but did win the holes, making it come out even three to three points. Vince Lamanna and Bob Welling were astounded that David had held Goliath to a draw. It may not sound like much, but to the Guru, it was a moral victory. Moral of story: keep your head down and keep swinging.
