Officials identify stabbing victim
DUNBAR – A 53-year-old Dunbar man who died from a lethal stab wound at his home Wednesday afternoon has been identified. Emergency room doctors at the Uniontown Hospital pronounced Larry Jeffers of 140 Stoney Road dead at 6:12 p.m. Wednesday, according to Fayette County Deputy Coroner Jessie Langer.
Langer said the cause of death was determined to be a lethal stab wound to the left chest, but noted that the cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology reports.
The results of an autopsy conducted late Thursday by Dr. Cyril Wecht, a forensic pathologist of Allegheny County, were not immediately available.
With the test results pending, it was not clear whether Jeffers’ death was a suicide, homicide or an accident.
Investigating officer trooper David Bell of the state police at Uniontown was not available for comment Thursday evening, but police said the incident was under investigation.
Other people were at the home when the incident occurred, according to authorities, but their identities were not known Thursday.
No further information was available as of press time.
Meanwhile, the Dunbar Township Supervisors spoke fondly of Jeffers during their regular monthly business meeting Thursday night, saying he was a 32-year township employee.
“Larry was a very good and faithful employee,” said Supervisor Chairman Larry Mayros. “He was always here when we needed him.”
Supervisor Thomas Yekel said Jeffers was also a good truck driver, who never had an accident during his career with the township.
Mayros said the supervisors learned of Jeffers’ death in the Herald-Standard Thursday morning but could not immediately confirm the news.
“No one called us and told us anything,” said Mayros. “We read it in the newspaper and figured it must be true because Larry didn’t show up for work today.”
Mayros said that Jeffers would be missed.
