Wendell T. (Van) Vanorsdale, 90, of Niantic, Illinois, formerly of Connellsville, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Lakeland,… Wendell T. (Van) Vanorsdale, 90, of Niantic, Illinois, formerly of Connellsville, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Lakeland, Florida.
He was born October 10, 1916, in Connellsville, Pa., the son of the late Charles (Happy) and Maude Flanigan Vanorsdale.
Wendell graduated from Connellsville School. He retired from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and also the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
He attended Niantic Christian Church, Niantic, Illinois as was a former member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Connellsville.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Thelma D. Martin Vanorsdale and four brothers, Ralph, Charles, Paul and Harold Vanorsdale.
Wendell is survived by his second wife, Ora Elizabeth Hamiliton Vanorsdale; daughter, Connie Rae Linderman and her husband Flay of Lakeland, Florida; stepson, Thomas Cropper of Decatur, Illinois; stepdaughter, Martha (Marty) Cropper of Murphysboro, Illinois; grandchildren, Roy Wendell Linderman of Georgia, Tracy and David Cropper of California, Rachel Koehn of Missouri, Leah Pruitt of Illinois and eight great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
Family and friends will be received at the VITO C. MARTUCCI FUNERAL HOME, 123 S. First Street, Connellsville, Pa., from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2007.
Interment will follow at Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville.
A memorial service will follow at a later date in Niantic, Illinois.
