Carmichaels man to face retrial
WAYNESBURG – A Carmichaels man could face a retrial as early as August on charges he sexually assaulted his foster daughter, after a Greene County jury was unable to reach a verdict on June 29. Assistant district attorney Timothy Maher, who tried the case, said the trial of Daniel Antonelli, 56, will be placed on the next trial list and could be retried in August.
The jury deliberated until late in the day, but a mistrial was declared when the jury could not reach a decision.
Antonelli was charged with two counts each of rape, intimidation of a witness, sexual assault, unlawful restraint, endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors.
The charges stem from a series of incidents starting in December 2005, when police allege Antonelli raped a 14-year-old girl in his care as a foster child. After the incident, Antonelli allegedly threatened the girl and assaulted her again.
