Searights Learning Center celebrates ten years
MENALLEN TWP. – Community members, both adults and children, are invited to attend what sponsors say will be a fun-filled event Tuesday, July 10, at the Searights Learning Center. The center, located in Searights, will celebrate its 10th anniversary by holding an open house and summer barbeque. The event is free and refreshments will be served.
Kathryn L. Palmer, director and social services coordinator at the learning center, said the event is designed to make the public aware of all the services available to them, both at the center and across Fayette County.
Palmer said the center is a privately owned, nonprofit organization that offers a wide variety of services, including free computer classes for youth and adults at the ROCC Penn State Computer Lab.
The center also offers assistance with job searching and has access to CareerLink, a job seeker/employer Web site.
In addition, the center offers tips on resume writing and offers various referral services – educational, occupational and social.
The mission of the center, according to Palmer, is to provide specialized educational needs through a positive computer-oriented learning environment.
All of the services offered at the center are free, Palmer said.
The open house and summer barbeque will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 10, with the rain date set for July 11.
Various informational booths will be set up and the public is invited to visit the booths, Palmer said, noting that information will be available regarding all types of available services. She said employers also will be onsite with the intention of hiring.
In addition, there will be games, face painting and Pickle Radio 99.3 FM will broadcast live from the center.
The Searights Learning Center is located at 302 Village of Searights.
