Net MAGIC basketball camp to be offered
Net MAGIC, a free basketball camp for youths ages 6-16, will be held July 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, and 27 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Margaret Bell Middle School located at 126 East Lincoln Street in Waynesburg. Sponsored by the Family Stability community team of the MAGIC collaborative board, the objective of the basketball camp is to increase self-esteem, parent/child interactions and the child’s basketball skill level.
The camp started in 1999 and has grown tremendously. Over the past six years, Net MAGIC’s attendance has increased from 22 to 60 youth and their outcome study has shown a marked increase in all program goals.
There will be various educational activities and agency information available at all camp sessions, and parents, family members and caregivers are encouraged to stay and participate with their child.
Net MAGIC is a collaborative effort with support from community agencies, such as: Greene County Human Services, Value Behavioral Health, Southwest Regional Medical Center, Community Action Southwest, WIC (Women, Infant’s and Children’s) Program, Neighborhood Drug Awareness Corp., Greene County Tobacco Control Program, Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, Children and Youth Services (CYS), CYS Advisory Board, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army~Greene County Service Center and other community agencies.
The MAGIC collaborative is comprised of a steering committee and six community teams. The purpose of the collaborative is to create an integrated, coordinated community/family based service system to meet the health, education and community needs of Greene County residents.
