He was born… Houston A. Belski, 85, of Coal Center, Pa., passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007, in his home.

He was born Saturday, March 25, 1922, in Coal Center, Pa., a son of the late William and Ann (Ucavicz) Belski. He resided in Coal Center his entire life.

Houston was a veteran of WWII, and retired from the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railway Company. He never tired of telling stories about his growing up days with his large family, World War II stories about the places he was stationed, and how he ran the railroad yard single handedly. He loved to plant his vegetable garden each spring and claimed that his tomatoes were the best in Coal Center. In later life, Houston was known for being the slowest driver in town.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by six brothers, Andrew, William, Anthony, John, Albert, and Joseph Belski and two sisters, Anna Markovich and Helen Mazza.

Left to cherish his memory are his nephew, whom he loved as a son, Houston E. Belski and wife Mary Louise, of Hibbs, Pa., and their children, Dr. William H. Belski, Rebecca Belski-Scott, husband Bradley, and daughter Isabella, and Houston A. Belski, wife Nicole, and children Houston and Anna-Claire.

He spent many holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings with them. Houston’s kindness, love, and generosity allowed this family to reach for the stars. He will be greatly missed.

He is also survived by his beloved niece, Elaine Rable, husband Joseph (Ozie) and their children; daughter, Pam Mason, husband James and their children, Clay and Lauren and son Ryan. Elaine visited often and made it possible for him to live comfortably in his own home. In addition, he is survived by nieces, Mary Ann Hill, Christine Knarr, Diane Paletta and Anna Belski and nephews, William Belski, Anthony Markovich, Andrew Markovich, Phillip Mazza and Anthony Mazza.

Friends will be received in the MARISCOTTI FUNERAL HOME, INC., Anthony N. Mariscotti, Supervisor, 323 Fourth Street, California, Pa., on Sunday, July 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and until 10 a.m. on Monday when a Blessing Service will be held in the funeral home with Fr. George Moneck officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
