5K race set
City Mission-Living Stones Inc. is holding its 3rd annual 5K run and walk Aug. 25 to benefit its homeless shelter programs. National City Bank is once again sponsoring the fund-raiser, which is being called the “National City Main Street Classing Run/Walk for the Homeless.” All of the proceeds from the event are used to support the agency’s shelter programs.
City Mission operates two emergency shelters – one for women and children with 12-15 beds and one for men that has a 21-bed capacity. The agency also operates a youth shelter that houses 12- to 17-year-olds. These are kids who are homeless/runaways or children placed with the program through the child welfare system. In addition to its emergency programs, City Mission operates the 30-unit Gallatin School Living Center, which provides transitional housing for families and individuals trying to get back on their feet. The agency serves approximately 500 people a year between all programs.
City Mission plans to break ground on its newest facility, Liberty Park Apartments, a 4-unit permanent supportive housing program this month. Located at 113 Liberty St., these four units will provide formerly homeless families where one adult member has a disability with permanent housing that is linked to the support services they need.
The 3.1-mile race begins at 9 a.m. Aug. 25, at Storey Square on Main Street in Uniontown and also ends at Storey Square.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the square. Standard registration costs $15 through Aug. 17, and $18 thereafter. Completed race applications should be mailed to City Mission-Living Stones Inc. 155 N. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, Pa. 15401. Race packets should be picked up by Friday, Aug. 24, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Awards will be given to the top three male and female overall competitors in the run and walk as well as the top three finishers in each age division of male and female runner and walker. Last year’s run winners were Ed Filcheck and Susan Claar and the walk winners were Mark Stafford and Jamie Brooks.
