Vacation Bible School
Members of the Masontown United Methodist Church will hold its Vacation Bible School on Aug. 5-10 for children ages 3 to 11. The time is 6:15 to 9 p.m. It will be held at the Masontown-German Park, and for good reason, too. The theme this year is “Waterworks Park.”
Each day, children will visit all the fun park activities: Splash-tacular – Bible memory and music; Raging River – Games; Bible Bay – Bible Story dramas, Snow Mountain – “Cool” reproducible activities, Gift and Souvenir – Shop Crafts, Plus – Coconut Island Puppet Time and the Snack Shack.
For good attendance and good behavior, the Bible Club Kids will go to Wanna-B-Park on Friday night for the closing ceremony and a swim party. There is no fee for Vacation Bible School. Pre-registration is helpful but not required. For more information, contact Barb Lewis at 724-583-2655.
Worship in park, picnic
Masontown United Methodist Church invites the public to join the congregation for the annual worship service in the park and church picnic on July 29. The worship begins at 10 a.m. and the picnic immediately follows. Everyone is invited to bring a picnic dish to share. Bring tableware but the Outreach Committee will also provide paper and plastic products for those not bringing their own. Meat and cold drinks will also be provided. Those attending are encouraged to bring games, either field games or table games, to play with others.
A new idea this year is a Penny Auction, where everyone (who wants to) is invited to bring an item (wrapped) to be auctioned. It should be an inexpensive gift. It can be practical or funny, unusual or useful. People are encouraged to bring lots of coins to bid on the various items. You could wrap a can of soup or a roll of toilet paper in pretty wrapping paper. No one knows what is inside or on what they are bidding on. The fun is to watch people bid against each other and then to see what surprise is inside. Use your imagination not your dollars. Any money raised from the auction will benefit our Vacation Bible School.
For more information, contact the church office at 724-583-9207.
