A DVD and a stats book celebrating the past season of the Albert Gallatin Area High School boys basketball team will be available to the public at the high school library, school board member Janet Swaney announced Wednesday. The Colonials advanced to the first round of the PIAA Quad-A Boys Basketball Championship before losing to Mount Lebanon 66-60 in the first-round of the playoffs.

“The basketball team had a terrific year,” said Swaney, noting she was given the DVD that has highlights of games and a scrapbook with newspaper articles and team statistics.

“I never saw the community come together like that before,” added Swaney, referring to the many supporters who cheered on the players during their games.

Former Head Coach Dan Andria, whose resignation from the post was announced at the Wednesday school board meeting, previously said fans young and old showed up to support the team.

School district Superintendent Walter Vicinelly said Wednesday that the scrapbook and DVD will preserve a good part of the school district’s history.

“It will be preserved and can be looked at for many years to come,” Vicinelly said.

In other district news, Vicinelly announced the district was approved for a $35,000 grant for the purchase of computers for Friendship Hill and Masontown elementary schools through the state Department of Community and Economic Development. Vicinelly thanked state Rep. H. William DeWeese, D-Waynesburg, for helping to secure the grant.

Vicinelly also announced the state Department of Education said the district’s use of the Title I, Title II A and Title V federal funds are in compliance with all regulations. He thanked those in administration who monitor the use of those funds.

The board also:

– Renewed a contract with Nutrition Inc. as food service management company from July 1 through June 30, 2008, with a loss not to exceed $58,827.

– Purchased security cameras for the high school parking lot for $14,826, part of which will be funded by a grant.

– Hired Michelle Johnson, fourth grade teacher at A.L. Wilson Elementary School; Michelle Kimble, reading specialist at A.G. South Middle School; and Marianne Filippone, reading specialist at A.G. North Middle School.

– Accepted the resignations of Sandra Rantovich, registered nurse aide and Jerome Vicinelly, assistant ninth-grade football coach. They hired Jeff Myers to fill Vicinelly’s post.

– Hired Lindsey Smart as cheerleading sponsor at A.G. South Middle School and Shanna Yourchik as head volleyball coach at the high school.

– Granted Friendship Hill permission to solicit bids for the construction of an outside pavilion/classroom.

– Announced the next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. July 18 in the George J. Plava Elementary School cafeteria.
