Three Greene County departments – along with many customers throughout the county – must search for new Internet providers after GreenePa Inc., the county’s oldest Internet service provider, recently announced that the company would cease service by the end of this month. On Monday, some of GreenePA’s customers reportedly lost their Internet service. The county departments of tourism, transportation and parks and recreation were affected by the loss of service. As of press time, county department representatives were not able to comment on how specifically the departments were affected.

The Messenger was also unable to reach representatives from GreenePA Inc. regarding this issue as of press time. A statement found on the company’s Web site thanks its customers for their business.

“We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for your patronage over the years,” the Web site states. “If it were not for you, we would certainly not have made it this long.”

In the statement, GreenePA also offers its customers various suggestions for replacement for their service including Windstream Communication for dial-up and DSL customers, since Windstream is currently the only remaining provider in Greene County. The company also offers replacement suggestions for satellite and Web hosting customers as well.

The company is also going to try to find a way to temporarily forward e-mails through @greenepa.net to customers’ new e-mail addresses for a limited time, according to the statement.

The company is closing because they could no longer keep up with modern technology since it moves at such a fast pace from month to month, according to GreenePA’s Web site.

“We apologize for the problems that this will cause,” the statement concludes. “Thank you all once again for your patronage over the years.”
