Girl killed in car accident identified
GRAYSVILLE – An 11-year-old girl who was killed Tuesday afternoon after the car driven by her brother struck a house near their Greene County home has been identified. Daianara Dawn Bedilon was riding in a 1982 Chevrolet driven by her brother, Jeffrey McConnell, 17, both of 271 Stringtown Road in Graysville, when the accident occurred at 5:05 p.m.
According to state police, the car was traveling south on Stringtown Road when McConnell failed to negotiate a left curve, the vehicle left the road and spun into the side of a house.
Greene County Deputy Coroner Mary Lewis said Bedilion was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:08 p.m.
“They go off the side of the road into the dirt and kind of lost control,” Lewis said. “You know, they’re kids and normally that age isn’t experienced at driving. He just lost control and it spun and went into the corner of the house.”
According to Lewis, the pair was driving to a store at the corner of their road, which intersects with Route 21.
“You could see their house (from the scene). They didn’t go very far,” Lewis said.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Cyril Wecht will perform an autopsy in Pittsburgh.
Police said the passenger-side of the vehicle crashed into the 190 Stringtown Road residence of Robert Minton.
“It was right down below their house for goodness sake,” Lewis said.
McConnell was flown by STAT MedEvac helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
In addition to police, volunteer fire departments from Graysville, Center Township and Richhill Township responded, as did Southwest and Richhill emergency medical service crews.
