William H. ‘Herb’ Robbins
William H. ‘Herb’ Robbins, 94, of Greensboro, Pa., died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. Born April 3, 1912, in Point Marion, Pa., he was the son of the late Ray and Emma Boast Robbins.
A 1930 graduate of Point Marion High School, he was a member of the Mapletown United Methodist Church. Herb had worked for a time as a machinist at Houze Glass in Point Marion, and for Hillman Barge in Pittsburgh. He retired from United States Steel’s Robena Mine in 1976, having started in the mines in 1947 at the Ford and Gaskill mine. In later years, he was the owner and operator of the Evergreen Mobile Home Park on Cabbage Flats since 1967.
Surviving are four children and their spouses: Richard and Judith Robbins of Keedysville, Maryland, Marilyn and William Rodgers of LasVegas, Nev., Wella Jean and Jerry Blout of Mount Dora, Florida, and Thomas and Denise Robbins of Greensboro; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Duane and Margot Robbins of Uncasville, Conn., Kathy and Rob Summerlin of Mount Airy, Maryland, Robert and Karen Rodgers of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, Vince and Elaine Blout of Apopka, Fla., Jerrylynn and Dale Groves of Mascotta, Fla., Thomas and Hailey Robbins of Irmo, South Carolina and Cheri and John Colby of Perkasie, Pa.; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Robbins of Tustin, Calif.; a sister, Edna Hinkle of West Virginia; and a dear friend and companion for the past ten years, Sarah Boone of Greensboro.
He was predeceased by his wife, Doris Stevenson Robbins on January 10, 1993, two grandsons, William ‘Billy’ Robbins and William Rodgers, brothers, Russell and Arthur Robbins, and sisters, Elsie Born, Anna Piersol, Marie Stevenson, Mildred Herring and Betty Rae Robbins.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, Point Marion on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Kenneth Haines officiating.
Intombment follows in the mausoleum at Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
