ASBURY UNITED METH-ODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces Sunday’s more casual 9 a.m. worship service will include the Rev. Thomas E. Brown’s message “Can You Really Trust God?’ Holy Communion and praise choruses led by song leader Barb Cruse and special music by pianist Sharon Brown. The basket will be passed at both services.
The more traditional 11 a.m. service will include the message by Brown and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir and music director and organist and music director Jim Hutchinson. BREAKTHROUGH WORSHIP CENTER, located on Ferguson Road in Mount Braddock, will host a free clothing drive Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church. MASONTOWN COMMUNITY KITCHEN will serve its bi-weekly meal on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Masontown First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Church St. Tuesday’s meal will be homemade soup along with Panera breads, homemade desserts and beverages.
Officials said, “The public is invited to enjoy a good hot meal or even just a cup of coffee and to visit with friends and neighbors. There is no charge for the meal, however, donations are accepted. Hospitality and fellowship is provided by the volunteers and members from the various churches and communities of Masontown, McClellandtown and Leckrone. The last Community Kitchen was held Feb. 20 with 160 meals served. The one-year anniversary was celebrated with a roasted pork dinner donated by August and Esther Diamond. The event was complete with balloons and birthday cakes donated by Ball’s bakery and Brodak’s Shop ‘n Save. Special recognition was given to the Rev. James Giesey, retired minister of First Presbyterian, and members of the kitchen who initiated this mission for the church and Masontown Community. More than 2,000 meals have been served since the onset of the soup kitchen in February 2006.
