Open house scheduled A.G. Montessori School, 199 Edison Street, Uniontown is hosting an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Interested families are welcome to visit the school and explore the elementary and preschool/kindergarten classroom environments and the Montessori materials.

Teachers and parents will be present to answer questions and give tours of the classrooms.

The school accepts children from ages two-and-a-half through fifth grade and is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and a member of the American Montessori Society.

Kindergarten registration

The California Area School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 8.

Children must be a resident of the school district and five years of age on or before Aug. 31. Registration packets will be available in the school office prior to dates of registration.

On the day of registration, the child must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and the child’s birth certificate and proof of immunization must be presented.

Registration times are based on the first letter of the child’s last name. Letters of last names to be registered and times are as follows: A-F, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday; G-M, 12:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday; N-S, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday; T-Z, 12:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday.

Registration scheduled

The Laurel Highlands School District will hold kindergarten registration for the 2007-08 school year on the following dates:

– March 26 at George C. Marshall Elementary School from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

– March 27 at Hutchinson Elementary School from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

– March 28 at R.W. Clark Elementary School from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 12 to 2 p.m.

– March 30 at Hatfield Elementary School from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.

District officials said a kindergarten readiness test will be given to children at registration. Parents have to bring their child’s birth certificate, record of immunizations and social security number and proof of residency, such as a utility bill.

All students attending the 2007-08 school year must be five years old on or before Aug. 31.

Two named to list

Megan George and Kyle J. Wilson of Uniontown have been named to the fall 2006 dean’s list at Duquesne University.

George is a junior in the McAnulty College of Liberal Arts and daughter of Thomas and Andrea George of Uniontown.

Wilson, a student in the School of Pharmacy, has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average and is in his third year professional phase of his pharmacy studies.

He received his “white coat” at a special ceremony in the Duquesne Ballroom in August 2006. He has been named to the Director’s Circle, the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society, the Lambda Sigma Honor Society and is a member of the Academy of Student Pharmacists.

The son of Scott and Joanne Wilson and valedictorian of his Geibel Catholic High School 2004 graduating class, Wilson was awarded the Provost Scholarship from Duquesne University and also a four-year scholarship from Consol Energy, Inc.

He has interned at New Salem and Fairchance pharmacies and is now interning at the Uniontown Hospital Pharmacy. He has a brother, Jonathan, a junior and high honor student at Geibel Catholic Middle-High School.

The dean’s list recognizes full-time students who have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a “C”.

Orientation planned

The Albert Gallatin Area School District is holding a special eighth-grade orientation session at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium. Parents are invited to attend.

Students’ scheduling options and curriculum choices will be major topics of discussion.

Information vital for proper scheduling choices will be explained and distributed along with details of the senior project and graduation requirements.

Scoring proficient or advanced on the eighth-grade Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) will factor into scheduling electives.

High school principal Joetta Britvich, assistant principals Randy Wilson and Christopher Pegg, high school guidance counselors Dianne Miller, Ann Capozzi and Bernie Wydo, as well as middle school guidance counselors Joyce Micoli and Elaine Kopich and representatives of district administration will be in attendance to answer questions.

Witt on dean’s list

Timothy Witt, a 2003 Connellsville Area High School graduate and the son of the Rev. Barry and Junann Witt of Connellsville, has been named to the dean’s list at Grove City College for the fall 2006 semester.

Witt is a history major at the college.

Students must earn at list a 3.4 grade point average to qualify for the list.

Kassimer honored

Stephen Kassimer, an Albert Gallatin Area High School graduate, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the College of Wooster.

A senior communication studies major from Fairchance, Kassimer achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or above.
