Dr. Mark R. Montgomery
Dr. Mark R. Mongomery, age 90, of Fairchance, Pa., died Thursday, March 1, 2007, in his home. He was born November 9, 1916, in McClellandtown, Pa., son of Albert and Alice Montgomery.
Dr. Montgomery graduated from the now former Georges High School.
He attended West Virginia University, the University of Maryland and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine with a residency at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
He served stateside during World War II in the United States Air Force Corps.
Following the war, Dr. Montgomery opened his office in Fairchance, where he practiced medicine for 43 years with “Sue” as his nurse. In 1989, Dr. Montgomery retired to his farm.
He was predeceased by his wife, Frances “Sue” (Connelly) Montgomery in 1996, his parents, two brothers, Dr. Bruce Montgomery and Dr. Horace Montgomery, and a sister, Lavina Montgomery Reitz.
Surviving are four daughters: Sue Evans of Fredonia, New York, Nan Chess and her husband, Raymond, of Smithfield, Pa., Marcia Goisse and her husband, Keith, of Fairchance, Pa., and Jo Miller and her husband, John, of New Market, Maryland; seven grandchildren: Lydia Evans and her husband, Brian Walnicki, of Fredonia, New York, Lisa Chess of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dr. Bart Chess and his wife, Kelli, of Pittsburgh, Pa., Meghan Warren and her husband, Chris, of Columbus, Ohio, Monty Goisse and his fianc?e, Rebecca Gardner, of Belmar, New Jersey, Dr. Marcy Flecker and her husband, Tim, of Meridian, Mississippi, and Jonathan Miller of Thurmont, Maryland; eight great-grandchildren: Zachary and Piper Walnicki, Dominick and Gabriel Chess, Mark and Luke Flecker and Monty and Julia Miller; one sister, Sara Eustis of Fairchance; and his favorite companion, Eleck, his dog.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Albert Gallatin Hospice Team 5 and any other caregivers.
The family will receive friends in the GOLDSBORO-TOMI FUNERAL HOME, 21 East Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday, March 5, 2007, until 9 a.m., the hour of the Service with the Rev. Scott Teets officiating.
Interment will follow in the Worthville Cemetery, Worthville, Pa.
