Crash kills Greene County teen

1 min read

A Greene County teen was killed after a head-on collision in Franklin Township shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Hope Maley, 16, of Waynesburg, was pronounced dead at the scene by Greene County Deputy Coroner Mary Lewis at 10:08 p.m. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed by Forensic Pathologist Cyril Wecht at 2 p.m. today to determine the cause of death.

According to state police, Maley was traveling south on Route 218 when a car driven by Britnee Moore, 18, of Waynesburg, crossed the center lane after failing to negotiate a curve. Moore’s 2006 Honda Civic traveled into the southbound lane and struck Maley’s 1994 Honda Civic head-on about 200 feet south of Randy Hoge Road, police said.

Moore suffered moderate to major injury in the crash and was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

A state reconstruction team was on-scene last night, Lewis said, but it appeared that Moore was just coming out of the curve in the roadway when the cars collided.

Maley was on her way to visit her father, Lewis said; the accident occurred the day before her birthday.

“It’s heartbreaking, it really is,” Lewis said.
