Fire destroys vacant mobile home
A vacant mobile home that had been damaged by a fire four days ago was destroyed by another blaze Wednesday night. Uniontown firefighters found the home on South Gordon Street completely engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene around 11:15 p.m.
‘It was burning pretty good when we got there,” said Chuck Coldren, assistant fire chief.
No one was injured in the blaze and the owners of the house were not immediately identified.
Uniontown police Officer David Rutter said emergency personnel evacuated homes on each side of the residence.
Coldren said firefighters were able to contain the blaze quickly.
“We knocked it down from the outside,” Coldren said.
Fire crews were on scene until about 2 a.m. Thursday working to demolish what was left standing of the home.
Officials said the state police fire marshal is investigating the blaze and called the cause of the fire suspicious.
The fire broke out about an hour before a second house fire just a few streets away in North Union Township.
According to Fayette County 911, the second fire began at mobile home on Connellsville Street adjacent to Bethesda Christian Store sometime after midnight. Volunteer firefighters from North Union Township and Hopwood responded to the blaze.
The cause of the second fire was not immediately known.
It was not clear if the fires were related.
