North Union Authority opens bids for plant project

By Steve Ferris 2 min read

The North Union Township Municipal Services Authority opened bids Friday for a project that involves converting a small sewage treatment plant to a pump station and connecting it to the Greater Uniontown Joint Sewage Plant. A small treatment plant at the Mount Braddock Industrial Park off Route 119 will be reconfigured into a pump station and a sewer line will be installed from it to the Greater Uniontown treatment plant, said Arthur R. Brower of Fayette Engineering of Uniontown.

He said the work would start in about a month and take three months to complete.

The project was divided into two parts: reconfiguring the plant and installing the lines.

The apparent low bid for the plant reconfiguration was $127,000 from D&M Contracting of New Alexandria. Four other bids ranged from $131,000 to $184,481.

Franty and Sons Excavating of Uniontown submitted the apparent low bid of $86,515 for the line installation phase. The 12 other bids ranged from $120,450 to $214,732.

Brower said the bids will be reviewed and tabulated, and the authority could vote to award construction contracts at its meeting on Wednesday.

Authority Chairman James A. Hercik the authority is using its own money to pay for the work.

“It will not result in a rate increase,” Hercik said.

The small plant, which handles sewage from the industrial park and Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus, is expensive to operate and the authority will save money by eliminating it, the official said.
