The album is full of Brian Wilson-like lyrics and Jeff Lynne-sounding choruses that will have you singing out loud and grinning from ear to ear. “Can You Feel It” sets the tone for the album by asking us to turn up the stereo. Halfway through the song, you will instinctively raise the volume level. “Energy” continues the rush with a retro sound reminiscent of a ’70s Coke commercial when the goal was to teach the world to sing.
Even the relationship-strained song “Play Tough” is performed as if Schneider can’t help but have a grin on his face. At a time when he should be whining or crying, we still find him smiling. It’s hard to imagine him in a bad mood.
With all that is happening in the world around us, it’s a treat to listen to an album that simply allows us to enjoy a whimsical journey full of nostalgic fun. Given all that New Magnetic World has to offer, you’re sure to enjoy this musical retreat again and again.
