Accident knocks out power
A traffic accident Tuesday night on Route 21 in the Graysville area of Greene County caused a power outage that left about 720 homes and businesses without electricity until around 10 a.m. Wednesday. The outage also forced the West Greene School District to cancel all classes Wednesday.
“It’s not something we like to do,” said Superintendent Thelma Szarell.
The accident left Route 21 closed Wednesday morning and the only available detour was too dangerous for school buses, said Szarell.
Graysville Elementary School was the only district school that did not have power Wednesday, but all district schools were closed because of the accident, she said.
The lost day of classes will be made up on April 5.
A vehicle sheared off a utility pole along Route 21 at 10:15 p.m., said Allegheny Energy spokesman David Neurohr.
He said the pole was replaced and power was restored between 9:30 and 10 a.m.
Residents and businesses in the Graysville and Wind Ridge were affected by the outage.
No further information was available about the accident.
