Pennsylvania safe boater courses set Mon Valley Emergency Medical Services will sponsor Pennsylvania Basic Boater/Personal Watercraft Operator Safety Courses at its facility on Donner Ave. in Monessen.

Participants have three Saturdays on which they can take the course – April 4, May 12 and May 19.

Pennsylvania now requires all personal watercraft operators to complete a safety course before operating on state waters.

Persons born after Jan. 1, 1982 may not operate a boat in Pennsylvania with a 26-plus horsepower motor until they have completed a boater safety course, and all youngsters 12 through 15 are required to complete a safety course in order to operate a boat with a 10 horsepower or more engine.

Persons who successfully complete the course will be issued a temporary Pennsylvania Boater Safety Certificate. Participants must then mail in their course application along with a check for $10 to the Fish and Boat Commission to receive a permanent Pennsylvania Boater Safety Certificate.

The cost of the course is $20 and includes morning snacks and beverages.

To register contact John Stimak at 724-684-5320.
