Southpointe Spring Walk set for April 21
Rain or shine, the Spring Walk at Southpointe will take place on Saturday, April 21, beginning at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. at the Bailey Center II lower parking lot at California University’s Southpointe Center, 135 Technology Drive, Canonsburg. Cost is $25 per person, which includes a long-sleeve T-shirt as well as being eligible for many prizes and giveaways.
All proceeds from this event benefit the Cal U/Southpointe Center Book Scholarship Fund and “Let Them Walk Again, Danang,” and organization that is building bridges between villages to advance the education, economy and the lives of people in that region.
The walk is a two- or four-mile walk, once or twice around Technology Drive. For more information or a registration form, call the Southpointe Center at 724-873-2760. To guarantee a souvenir T-shirt all registrations must be received at the Southpointe Center by Monday, April 9. The form must be filled out and signed prior to the walk in order to participate. Checks or money orders need to be made payable to The Foundation for CUP and mailed to Cal U/Southpointe Center, Stephanie Urchick, 135 Technology Drive, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
This year’s celebrity walker will be Andrew Stockey, who is the news anchor of WTAE Channel 4 Action News weekday mornings at 5 and 6 a.m. For nearly a decade, he was the Channel 4 Action sports director. Before coming to WTAE-TV Channel 4 in 1995, he has worked for Fox News and ESPN.
Stockey won the 2005 best sportscast and best sports play-by-play from the Pennsylvania Associated Press. He also won an Emmy Award for a Race for the Cure special, as well as a Murrow and a Golden Quill awards for his sports broadcasting.
A Chicago native, Stockey grew up in Simsbury, Conn., and graduated from Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College.
He serves as a spokesman for Race for the Cure, Rally for a Cure, United Cerebral Palsy and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Stockey serves as a trustee for Chatham College and volunteers for a variety of local charitable events and causes.
Stockey and his wife, Sharon, reside in Washington County and enjoy playing golf on the many diverse courses throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
