Teen faces trial on rape charges
All charges against a 19-year-old Uniontown man accused of attempted rape were held for court following a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Mark L. Blair. Ronald Lyn Calloway Jr. of 148 Lincoln St. was charged Jan. 18 with criminal attempt to rape, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault before Magisterial District Judge Mark L. Blair in the alleged assault of an 18-year-old woman on Aug. 18, 2006.
On Tuesday, the woman described the assault in graphic detail before a silent courtroom.
“I was crying and asking him to stop and saying ‘why are you doing this to me,'” the woman said.
The Herald-Standard does not publish the names of victims of sexual assault.
According to Uniontown Detective Donald M. Gmitter, Calloway ripped off the woman’s shorts following repeated verbal and physical attempts to stop him and tried to force her to have sex with him at his Lincoln Street home.
The two had just walked back from purchasing some soda at a convenience store when the attack occurred.
Gmitter said eventually Calloway was able to perform a sexual act on the woman during which the woman began to cry and questioned Calloway’s motive. Gmitter said the woman told police that Calloway said he was assaulting her “because she was pretty and she was always teasing him.”
The woman said that Calloway lived a few houses up from her on Lincoln Street and was just an acquaintance.
Blair denied a request for a bond reduction in the case and remanded Calloway to the Fayette County Prison on $100,000 straight cash bond.
Last year, Calloway pleaded guilty in Fayette County Court to charges of burglary, receiving stolen property, theft by unlawful taking and criminal mischief and was sentenced to 6 to 23 months in prison, court records indicate.
Calloway also was charged in early February with two counts of criminal attempt before Magisterial District Judge Joseph M. George Jr. in an unrelated case where Calloway allegedly tried to break into a South Union Township home.
