Suspects caught

By Josh Krysak 2 min read

Uniontown police used two different sets of surveillance cameras, a trail of motor oil, a pair of dark gloves and missing hubcaps to track down two men accused of stealing two computers from a business Friday morning. Officer Ray Miller said charges are pending against two Uniontown men for the break-in.

According to Miller, he and Sgt. Jon Grabiak responded to a reported break-in at Game Plan Solutions, a computer business on Morgantown Street, around 3:22 a.m. Miller said the front door was smashed and two computers were stolen.

He said officers searched the area for suspects and discovered a pool of motor oil at the scene and a trail of oil leading down an alley and onto Mill Street.

Miller also said police reviewed surveillance tapes from the store and saw two men in dark clothes and gloves smash the door with a brick and then flee the scene with the computers in a brown car with no hubcaps.

Police found the getaway car on Bierer Lane by following the oil trail and looking for the make and model of the car shown on the store’s surveillance video, Miller said.

Police said they checked the car and discovered black gloves sitting on the front seat and also noticed the vehicle had no hubcaps. Miller said the car’s vehicle identification number also was intentionally hidden.

Police had the car towed from the scene and discovered that the owner lives in Bierer Wood Acres housing complex.

Police then decided to check an additional set of cameras operated by the Uniontown Hospital in the area of the housing project and were able to view two men leaving the car around 3:30 a.m., Miller said.

Police were then able to find the owner of the car at his home and he admitted to stealing the computers and also identified the second man in the videos. Miller said an investigation is continuing.
