Wilfred ‘Spider’ Minor

Wilfred “Spider” Minor, 79, of Uniontown, Pa., passed away Thursday, March 29, 2007, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born October 4, 1927, in Uniontown, the son of the late Roland and Helen (Curry) Minor.

“Spider”, as he was affectionately called, was a graduate and local sports legend of the Uniontown High School. He was also a member of the Saint Paul AME Church and a member of the Curry Dyson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3514, Uniontown.

He is survived by his sister, Eliza Minor of Uniontown; a sister-in-law, Ruth (Boone) Minor of Uniontown; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He will fondly be remembered as the coach and mentor to many youth in the East End. “You know the story. All Americans and All-Staters dotted the entire East End of town and just about all of them had been under the enthusiastic wing of one Spider Minor.”

Friends will be received in the MURIEL E. LANTZ FUNERAL HOME, 297 East Main Street, Uniontown, Pa., on Sunday, April 1, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred L. Thompson officiating. Internment will immediately follow at the Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
