Don graduated from Point Marion High School class of 1936.
He was employed with Darby Humbert Lumber Company of Fairchance from 1938 until October 1941, when he enlisted in the Air Force. Don served his country as a Crew Chief on B29 Bombers with the rank of Tech SGT. He was assigned to the 16th Bomb Group 10th Air Force on the island of Guam, Tinian and Siapan in the South Pacific. He was awarded theGood Conduct Medal, American Defense Medal, American Theatre Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, two bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. Don was honorably discharged November 23, 1945. He resumed his 45 year creer as a carpenter with Darby Humbert Lumber Company in December of 1945. Don was married to Marion Conn of Point Marion for 54 years, from December 16, 1945 until her death on June 13, 2000.
Don also served the community for many years as an insurance agent for South Western Mutal and Farmers and Traders Life.
Don is survived by two sns and their families: Clinton and P{hilomena Blaney of Waynesburg, pennsylvania, Nicole and Joe Headlee of Waynesburg (great-grandsons, Joseph and Holden), Breanna and Adam Provance of Cloumbus, Ohio (great-grandson, Lane), and Gregory and cheryl Leech Blaney of Morgantown, West Virginia, Jarod and Kadie Blaney of Richmond, Virginia and Lauren and Daryl Reynolds of Morgantown.
Don was a lifelong member of the Mount Moriah Baptist Church of Smithfield, Pennsylvania and served as moderator and member of the Board of Trustees for many years.
Viewing will be held on Thrusday, May 3, 2007, from 2 to4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME, in Smithfield, Pa., Funeral will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007, at 2 p.m., in the Funeral Home with interment at Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery.
