John F. Strickler Jr., 89, of Jefferson Township, Fayette County, Pa., entered his heavenly rest, Saturday, April 29, 2007, in… John F. Strickler Jr., 89, of Jefferson Township, Fayette County, Pa., entered his heavenly rest, Saturday, April 29, 2007, in his late home with his loving family at his bedside.
He was born in the State of Virginia on September 16, 1917, the son of the late John F. Strickler Sr. and Lillie Moyer.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Warfil Strickler on February 18, 2004.
He was a member of Little Redstone Presbyterian Church, R.D. Fayette City, Pa., Gummert Lodge 252 Masons of Fayette City for 62 years, Uniontown Lodge of Perfection a 32 degree member of the Pittsburgh Consistory. He retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel Company, Monessen Plant, a teacher in the Frazier School District, and a farmer, he was a former Tax Collector for Jefferson Township and a Frazier School Board Member. He owned and operated Strickler Auction Barn and was a member of the National and Pennsylvania Auctioneers Association. He was a Civil War buff because his grandfather Strickler served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. John served as a Lt. in the United States Navy during World War II and spent 20 years in the Navy Reserve. He was a graduate of California University of Pa.
He is survived by two sons: John F. Strickler and wife, Elizabeth, Donald W. Strickler and wife, Gail; two daughters: Barbara Jean Lombardo and husband, Salvatore and Beverly Hlatky and husband, John all of Perryopolis, Pa; and seven grandchildren: Joseph Strickler, Rhonda Yevcinez, Staci Strickler, Robert Strickler, Rachel Nash, Donald Joseph Stickler, and Corry Allen Strickler; and three great-grandchildren: Jeolle Johnson, Andrew Yevcinez and Anna Nash; and a brother, Claude Strickler of the State of Virginia.
Friends will be received in the ELEY/MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC., 334 Main Street, Fayette City, Pa., on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Additional viewing will be held in the Little Redstone Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m., until 11 a.m., where Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Michael Shepard officiating.
Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park, Brier Hill, Pa.
