John Joseph “YITZ” Cindric, age 87, of Upper Oliver 3, Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 28,… John Joseph “YITZ” Cindric, age 87, of Upper Oliver 3, Uniontown, Pa., passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 28, 2007, in Saint Anne Home, Greensburg, Pa.
He was born May 7, 1919, in Greensburg, Pa., the son of the late Joseph and Dora Pulig Morgan Cindric. His family eventually moved to Phillips and were members of Saint Mary (Nativity) Church, Uniontown.
John and his late wife Sophie were members of Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown.
He had an interest and ability in sports activities from playing to officiating. He graduated from North Union High School where he was an accomplished basketball player and also an talented baseball player in local baseball leagues.
Serving in World War II in North Africa and Italy, he received an honorable discharge from the United States Army on November 8, 1945.
John was an employee of Cohen’s Furniture Store in Uniontown until its closing in; he then was hired as the Supervisor of Maintenance at the Fayette County Courthouse. He retired as a Building Inspector for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry on March 18, 1981.
He was also involved in local politics, being elected a member of the former North Union Township School Board and later a member of the Laurel Highlands School Board.
Throughout his life, he had a great interest and ability in magic. He enjoyed performing his various card, coin, vanishing and number tricks to the delight of many, whether in the hospital or in a restaurant.
John had a skill in repairing almost anything. In retirement he continued his ‘fixing things’ around the house and for others and was part of a group of friends who spent their evenings talking and drinking coffee at Laurel Mall.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sophie Marie Bodziony Cindric on February 15, 2005, his brothers, Frank Morgan and Mike Morgan, and his sisters, Ann Morgan and Mary Morgan.
He is survived by his loving and devoted son, Rev. John R. Cindric of Greensburg, Pa, a number of nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law, Frank Bodziony, and several sisters-in-law, including, Veronica Morgan, Florence Rodgers and Dorothy Bodziony,; and numerous cousins.
Friends will be received in the KEZMARSKY FUNERAL HOME, 71 Pennsylvania Avenue, Uniontown, Pa., today Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, May 3, 2007, until 10:30 a.m. when brief Prayer Service will prepare us to proceed to the Church.
A Concelebrated Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. in Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Old Walnut Hill Road, Uniontown.
Interment will follow in Mt. St. Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Honors will be accorded at graveside by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 47 of Uniontown.
