The bouncy “Ruby” opens the album with a sing-along chorus that simply refuses to leave your head. “The Angry Mob” provides poignant lyrics through its disenchanted chorus: “We are the angry mob / We read the papers every day / We like who we like / We hate who we hate / But we’re all so easily swayed.” “Heat Dies Down” follows in the same infectious vain as the title track with its combination of big choruses and guitars. Strained relations are also on the menu in songs such as “Love’s Not a Competition (But I’m Winning)” and “I Can Do It Without You.” Stark life lessons are examined through “Everything is Average Nowadays” and “Learnt My Lesson Well.” The short but sweet, “Boxing Champ” is as clever as it is charming.
In the end, Yours Truly, Angry Mob, delivers well-structured songs that paint a vivid picture of growing up in a less than perfect world. Building on their past success, the group proves that not everything is average nowadays.
